This LEGO Atari 2600 set is retro-gaming fantasy material.

It's been roughly 50 years since Atari entered the gaming world, releasing a slew of arcade units such as Pong that forever changed the gaming landscape.

Five years later, in 1977, the company made the transition from arcades to the home with the Atari 2600, a home games console that helped bring video games into the home and defined a generation of some of the greatest retro games of all time.

Atari is commemorating this milestone by collaborating with LEGO to create this fantastic brick-based version of the Atari 2600.

This is a "nostalgic recreation of one of the most famous video game consoles of all time," according to LEGO.

"The iconic Atari VCS/2600 was an instant hit when it was introduced in 1977, and the new LEGO set is based on the four-switch revision that debuted in 1980, as well as Atari's 50th anniversary."

The 2532-piece set includes a console, iconic game cartridges, 3D recreations of 2D games, a joystick, and a surprise open mechanism.

Chris McVeigh, an Atari fan and LEGO designer, created the set, saying, "The Atari 2600 was one of the most memorable gifts I received as a kid." I remember sitting in front of the TV for hours, amazed that I could play arcade games in my own home.

"There were also many legendary titles, such as Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede, which is why bringing two icons, Atari and LEGO, together in this awesome set has been such an incredible experience.

"We hope that creating this classic console transports you back to a time when a handful of pixels meant a world of adventure."

This new LEGO set is one of several exciting new releases from the company, including the Home Alone house and the brilliant LEGO Star Wars AT-AT, the company's most expensive set to date.
